Calvin Sims is not an ordained minister, but for more than a decade he has taken his ministry to schools, universities, prisons for juveniles as well as adults, and yes, to churches across America and abroad.
"When I speak or conduct programs in public schools, I am prohibited from talking about religion. I fear that under these circumstances, I tend to give men and women to much credit for the history that I teach. But when I speak at a church, I rejoice because I am able to tell the righteous truth. The truth that the individuals who we teach about in history were also instruments to the will of almighty God."
Calvin G.Sims, Sr.
Calvin G. Sims, Sr. has lived an extraordinary life. He draws on that life to inspire others. For that reason, he is uniquely qualified to inspire any audience. But when that audience is a church, then his life becomes a testament to the power of faith and the mercy of the Lord.
Abandoned as a child and left to virtually fend for himself in an abusive foster home where he was beaten, molested and neglected - Calvin was introduced to crime and gangs. The house he grew up in was the equivalent to a modern day crack house. Living in "Vine City Bottom," one of the most crime riddled, violent neighborhoods in 1950's Atlanta, he was given his first gun at age 9. It was less his faith than the grace of God that protected him. Still, at 16, in order to escape what he thought would surely be his demise, Calvin dropped out of school and joined the Marine Corp.

What followed is a true American story and the primary source of Calvin's unique ability to relate to anyone who has set difficult goals or faces seemingly insurmountable adversity.
Calvin attributes his survival and later success to the fact that God had a plan for him and he threw himself headlong and totally into this purpose.
His love for reading about American Heroes (especially cowboys) taught him valuable character lessons. It was his adoption of their character traits - their boundless work ethic; their fierce determination; their self acceptance and confidence and more - are all personal assets he attributes to the heroes he read about - often while hiding in a tree, outside his dilapidated foster home.
Calvin is able to inspire any audience with the story of his life and the subsequent faith he developed that empowered him to achieve. In fact, Calvin Sims is often referred to as "The Over-Achiever."
And it is Over-achievement that he inspires and teaches.
You will never regret or forget the day that you invited this powerful speaker to inspire and motivate your church group or organization.

"When I take to the stage to speak, whether it is a school or church or prison, I silently send up a five word prayer:
"Lord, you have the mike" " Calvin G. Sims, Sr.
