A StoryTeller is Born

Calvin G. Sims, Sr. is an author, lecturer and master storyteller. His programs go far beyond entertainment. This storyteller is on a mission to inspire youth to read and to choose role models from the many great examples provided by the history of the American Frontier.

His stories emphasize the character and integrity that made the subjects of his stories heroes. Moreover, he encourages the youth in his audience to adopt the character of American heroes and thereby empowers them to have a brighter future.

Youth Empowerment Workshop

The Youth Empowerment Workshop is a powerful, life altering experience for any young person. This program is most often conducted for at-risk youth, however, it has often been successfully presented for gifted and exceptional students as well.

Drawing from his own extraordinary life experiences (click here to read bio), Calvin Sims has crafted a workshop that goes to the root of what an individual must do to transform themselves into a positive, productive citizen; one capable  of taking full advantage of the wealth of opportunities available to all Americans.

Building Bridges: Keynote Speech to Georgia Conference of Teachers of English

Picturesque Jekyll Island, Georgia provided a Hemingway style backdrop for a powerful, inspiring keynote speech by author, lecturer and master storyteller Calvin G. Sims, Sr.

There were teachers from all over the state of Georgia as well as other states. Teachers were from all levels of education; from Pre-School to Universities. There were many educators with doctorates. The significance here is that the keynote speaker is one who has achieved only a 9th grade education. (click here to read bio)

Calvin Sims is often called "The Over-Achiever." His educational programs are considered to be some of the most unique and powerful available. The educators who are members of GCTE, were treated to a passionate presentation that left them both well informed and inspired.

While doing research, Calvin Sims came across a the painting below.

The title of the painting, "The Promise," and the content therein intrigued Calvin. He wondered to himself, "Just what is the Black soldier promising?"

The result is a passionate, romantic and stirring poem penned by the master storyteller, himself.

A talented filmmaker, Calvin has brought that poem to life in this emotionally charged video that also salutes the more than 209,000 Black men who fought in the American Civil War. The poem is read by Calvin in this video.

Black History Month Celebration: Little Chapel Baptist Church

A deeply spiritual person, Calvin Sims is often invited to speak at churches and to faith based organizations.

Here, Calvin is addressing the congregation of Little Chapel Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. A Media Center Coordinator at a middle school invited Calvin to her school to tell stories the the children. Though religion was never mentioned, the educator instinctively knew that Calvin Sims could give an impassioned speech to her church congregation so she invited him to come back to Jacksonville to participate in their annual Black History Celebration.
